Daily Fitness Activities for Older Adults at The Westerly
Aug 22, 2025
There’s something energizing happening at The Westerly Pewaukee, and it’s transforming the way residents go about their day. We’re proud to now offer daily fitness activities for older adults right here in our welcoming senior living community. Whether you live independently, with assistance, or in memory care, our new lineup of group exercise classes makes it easier than ever to stay physically active, feel strong, and live with confidence.
These thoughtfully designed offerings aren’t just about movement. They’re about helping each resident strengthen muscles, stay safe, and enjoy the many benefits of staying active in a supportive, joyful environment. If you’ve been waiting for the right time to get moving, this is your moment.
A Meaningful Step Toward Better Health
At The Westerly Pewaukee, every fitness class is led with support and attention to individual needs. We understand that for older adults, physical activity isn’t a one-size-fits-all experience. Some are recovering from an injury, while others may be looking to increase strength and prevent a future break or fall. No matter your starting point, you’ll find a class that meets you where you are and supports your personal journey toward wellness.
If you’ve ever talked to your doctor about wanting to move more or maintain your mobility, these classes are a perfect place to begin. For example, balance-focused classes can help reduce the risk of falls. At the same time, muscle strengthening activities may ease joint pain or help with common concerns like flexibility and posture. Our aim is to keep you active and confident in your body. That applies not just for today, but for the long run.
What We’re Now Offering Every Week
Our community now features a vibrant, rotating schedule of fitness classes every week, each tailored to support your total well-being. Whether your goal is to stretch, build stamina, or simply enjoy time with friends, there’s something for you.
Many of these group classes are offered in proud partnership with the Pewaukee Parks & Recreation Department, bringing expert-led public wellness programs right to our residents here at home. Every activity is led with care and can be easily adjusted to meet a variety of mobility and fitness levels. Whether you prefer to remain seated, need support while standing, or are already highly active, the instructors are trained to help you feel comfortable and confident.
Featured Classes Include:
Chair Yoga
A gentle, seated class designed to support flexibility, circulation, and joint mobility. Chair Yoga is ideal for those who prefer or require extra support while moving. It’s especially helpful for those managing arthritis or recovering from an injury.
Yoga
This standing, mat-based class focuses on improving balance, breathing, and range of motion. It’s an excellent way to maintain flexibility, reduce tension, and support the body through slow, intentional movement.
Core Strength and Balance
Focused on stability and control, these classes help you improve balance and keep your body responsive and strong.
Strength Class
This is where you lift, tone, and build the muscles that support everyday tasks. With guided muscle strengthening activities, you’ll begin to notice how much easier it is to move through your day.
Cardio Mix & Mix It Up Fitness
These dynamic sessions offer fun, low-impact aerobic activity to promote heart health, increase endurance, and boost energy.
Additional Fitness Opportunities:
Exercise Equipment Demonstrations
Learn how to safely and confidently use our on-site gym equipment. It’s an excellent entry point for those newer to structured exercise and a great way for residents to explore what types of movement feel best for their body. These sessions provide hands-on guidance to help you get comfortable with equipment, understand proper form, and build confidence as you begin or continue your fitness journey.
Orange Shoe Fitness Workshops
In addition to our daily group classes, we also host ongoing fitness workshops in partnership with Orange Shoe Personal Fitness – Pewaukee. This trusted local partnership gives residents access to personalized fitness expertise typically found in private studio settings. These six-week workshops focus on bodyweight strength, joint stability, mobility, and balance. They're ideal for anyone looking to build functional strength and improve control and flexibility in a focused, small-group setting.
Each of these offerings is thoughtfully designed to accommodate all levels of mobility and fitness. Whether you prefer standing exercises, seated support, or something in between, you’ll find classes that make movement feel achievable and empowering. Even a short session can help maintain strength, reduce stiffness, and elevate your overall mood.
The Many Benefits of Staying Physically Active
Participating in regular exercise offers profound health benefits for older adults. It supports brain health, helps manage chronic conditions like heart disease, and is one of the most powerful ways to prevent falls. The benefits go beyond physical improvements. Staying active can improve sleep, reduce anxiety, and build deeper connections with others in the community.
Even if it’s been a while since your last fitness class, there’s no pressure. We make it easy to begin again with flexibility and programs that are customized to your comfort level.
